Went down to the Convention Center today to pick up my badge for GenCon. I strolled in, walked up to the Will Call, gave them my ID and told them I was probably the last one... and sure enough, I was. Got my convention book (with helpful map!) and bag of free stuff (including a customized d6, win) and strolled out. The whole process took about five minutes. Awesome.

Guys, I will admit that up until now I did not realize how HUGE GenCon is. I mean, sure, I heard the numbers of 28,000 people last year. But the numbers did not convey the true size. It is a freaking behemoth. Listen. Not only does it take up the entire Indiana Convention Center, which is pretty huge in its own right, it also sprawls across not one, not two, but SEVEN surrounding hotels.

What the hell.

The anime Artist's Alley is in the Westin hotel across from the Convention Center, so it looks like that's where I'll be spending much of my time. Still, I may pack up an hour or so early tomorrow so I can simply wander around the convention staring. It's going to be epic.

Meanwhile, I am reading two awesome books, Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine, which manages to feel like you're drinking a glass of wine while reading it; and Ghost Ocean, by S.M. Peters, a rather odd steampunk/supernatural book I picked up at Half Price the other day. I was wary at first, and only picked it up because it was supposedly steampunk, but now I'm definitely hooked. Very, very interesting mythology that's being built up here.

And now I think it's time for me to go enjoy one of those books.
