Final round-up

So, the weekend was fairly uneventful. I took my first final (Baroque Art) on Thursday, and I think I did reasonably well. My guess is a 93-95. Reasonable A, probably not spectacular. Whatever. I should get a solid A in the class and that's all I care about.

I spent most of Friday at the print sale, where things were... slow. I think we managed about ten coloring book sales and a handful of poster sales. However, it was worth it to sit and have a chance to talk for a few hours with everybody. I got some cool ideas for my own possible products while discussing options with the illustration club-- namely a calendar (I'm thinking Space Turtle and Friends) and greeting cards.

Saturday and Sunday I spent most of the time finishing up my third watercolor painting, the crazy huge portrait of Ween. Of the three, I enjoyed this one the least, namely because it was a bit more realistic and that meant I had to do things like, you know, pay attention to skin tones (made even harder by reflected green/pink light from other parts of the painting). I got it to look acceptable and sort of walked away. Naturally, this is the one my teacher turned out to love the most. (I actually got an A+ on that one.)

Also whipped off a quick concept sketch for the Illustration crit, which meant nothing at all because the final's not due for two months and I'd already re-planned the composition during crit. Still, I had to turn something in.

Yesterday I came home and after a run to Staples for ink (since Cartridge World was closed, noes!), finished up the last spread and printed them off, so my Children's Book was done. We ran through crit pretty quickly... everyone managed to do fairly well, except for the ones who did really poorly. Mostly, though, there was vast improvement over the color sketches, and that was good. Although not one, but two people ended up using fluorescent orange on their pieces, to which I can only say 'wtf?'

Still, this finals season has been notably stress-free, which is kind of awesome. It seems I got all the horrific time-sucking homework in early-mid November, and December was left open. I have a final in Asian Art Thursday and then I am done. I have no complaints.

And thus, for those of you who don't watch my dA page, I present to you my final works.

First up is Watercolor. Assignment was 3 paintings. I think the original sheet said 2 paintings that were half sheet and one that was near a full sheet, but I also think I'm the only one who did that.

Space Turtle Surfs the Cosmos (Redux)

(This actually needs to be re-scanned, the color is not quite right.)

Fox Fires on New Year's Eve

I don't have the third piece scanned yet, I'm going to do that tomorrow. I left it at school since it was raining and I didn't want to transport it. Even without the board it's about 20x30" and kind of a pain to haul around.

Illustration Coloring Book pages:

These were done for the annual Illustration Coloring Book, where we get everybody in Illustration to do a work on a theme and then bind it together into a coloring book to sell as a fundraiser, because Herron doesn't consider us a real department and so they don't allot us any money for scholarships. The books are $15 each-- let me know if anybody wants one. If you buy one I will do a free sketch for you as part of the package! (Hell, if you just want a sketch you could buy that too.)

Children's Book Illustration:

Remember those sketches I posted waaay back here? Yeah. Look quite a bit different now, don't they? Honestly I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, especially the macaw, although sadly my printer made them too dark on paper.

Now, to get around to working on some of those other ideas I had...
